SEASON IN REVIEW: 2025-26 Men’s Hockey

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's hockey team earned its second straight SUNYAC playoff appearance under 10th year Head Coach Alex Boak in their second season in the SUNYAC during the 2025-26 season.

The Roos kicked off the season with four straight wins including a top 10 win in the season opener as they defeated No. 7/8 nationally-ranked Trine 2-1 on home ice on Halloween. Evan Pringle and Niko Schoner scored third period goals while Trey Miller made 19 saves in the win.

Colton Alexander (two goals, one assist) and Schoner (one goal, three assists) led the way offensively two days later in a 5-1 win vs. Misericordia. The Roos kept the momentum going the following weekend with a 2-1 win at Nazareth and a 4-1 victory at Elmira. Miller had an impressive 42 save performance in the win against the Golden Flyers, while Spencer Sasenbury scored twice and Kelson Hooper made 33 saves in the victory against the Soaring Eagles.

After a tough stretch that included five straight losses, the Roos bounced back with a 5-2 SUNYAC win at Morrisville that included a pair of goals from Logan Kelly and third period tallies from Jackson Drysdale and Cory Liu. Canton dropped four more games before turning things around in mid-January with back-to-back wins at Plattsburgh and Skidmore.

Alexander scored twice, while Miller made 43 saves in a 3-1 win vs. the Cardinals on January 16. Schoner scored the game-winner 46 seconds into OT and Miller made 29 saves in a 3-2 win the next night at Skidmore.
Canton extended its unbeaten streak to three games on January 23 when Evan Pringle canned a pair of goals and Miller stopped 32 shots in a 3-3 OT tie at Potsdam.

The Roos biggest win of the season came when they defeated No. 4 nationally-ranked Oswego for the first time in program history, a 4-1 road win against the Lakers. Schoner scored in the second period and Alexander, Schoner and Pringle all netted third period goals with the final two coming in the form of empty-netters. Miller had another strong 35 save performance including stopping 26 over the final two periods.

The Roos won four of their final five games of the regular season with a 6-1 win at home against Morrisville, a pair of 3-0 and 5-2 road wins at Buffalo State and Fredonia, respectively, and a 2-1 home win against Plattsburgh. The teams only blemish in that stretch was a 4-3 OT loss to Skidmore. Dylan Pollock scored his first career goal, the eventual game-winner, in a 2-1 win as Canton completed the season sweep against Plattsburgh on Senior Night.

The Roos earned the five seed in the SUNYAC playoffs and battled the four seed Cortland on the road. The game was scoreless through two periods with Cortland scoring twice in the final 10 minutes of the game for the 2-0 victory.

Schoner led the Roos with 24 points and 15 assists while adding nine goals. Sasenbury had a strong rookie season ranking second on the team with 22 points and 14 assists.
