About SUNY Canton Athletics

SUNY Canton is a four-year institution that sponsors 15 varsity NCAA sports (baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball and volleyball). SUNY Canton is a full-time Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). The men's golf team competes in the Empire 8 and the women's golf team competes in the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC). The Roos also offer cheerleading and esports.

Our athletics department has grown considerably in the past few years, adding six sports since 2011 and more than doubling the number of student-athletes.

In the Summer of 2011 SUNY Canton opened its new 46 million dollar athletic facility complete with a new ice arena, a three court field house with a hard wood floor and synthetic surface, indoor baseball/softball practice facilities with year round drop down batting cages, a new 5,000 sq ft. fitness center, a lap pool, state-of-the-art athletic training room, team locker rooms, dedicated study areas for student-athletes with wireless computer access, a new office complex for athletic staff and coaches, and much more.

In the spring of 2013, SUNY Canton hosted the regional Special Olympics competition for the first time. It was an extraordinarily rewarding day for everyone involved, including our nearly 200 volunteers and nearly 200 Special Olympians. The Roos have continued to host this event since then.

A rich history of past athletic success from NJCAA National and Regional Championships and Academic All-Americans and a current history of new success along with a commitment towards student-athlete development and facility enhancement will keep SUNY Canton an exciting place for student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic goals.
