Canton, NY – The men's golf team competed in 16 tournaments over 23 18-hole rounds during their fall and spring seasons during the 2025-26 school year.
The Roos finished in the top three in nine different tournaments as they won two different events and finished runner-up in three others. Freshman
Raine Rumble broke the SUNY Canton D-III era program scoring record shooting a round of 68 (-4) to earn medalist honors at the Clarkson Invitational on September 3 to best the field of 39 golfers by four strokes. Canton won the event with a team score of 301, tied for their second lowest 18-hole team total of the season. Rumble finished with an eagle, five birdies, eight pars and four bogeys shooting four under on the front nine and even on the back on his way to a historic round.
Canton
finished runner-up at the Lou Jarvis Memorial Invitational at Jay Peak Resort on September 8. Rumble (2nd) and
Anthony Marion (T-3rd) led the way with rounds of 75 (+3) and 77 (+5), respectively.
The Roos shot their
low team round of the season at their home invitational at Partridge Run Golf & Country Club finishing with a team score of 299 (+11). Marion finished in second place individually with a round of 72 (E) and Rumble was tied for third with a 73 (+1). The team score of 299 was just two strokes away from tying the D-III era program record for low team score in an 18-hole event.
Canton tied for second out of six teams
holding the top two spots individually at the two-day, 36-hole Nazareth Fall Invitational on October 5 and 6 at Ravenwood Golf Club and Locust Hill Country Club, respectively. Marion finished first (146: +2), while Rumble was second (147: +3) out of 33 golfers.
The Roos led the Empire 8 Championship after the opening 18-hole round of the four round (two fall, two spring) event. Canton shot a team score of 301 to lead Russell Sage (304) after the first 18 holes of the championship as
Kahontiio Lazore was in a tie for first (73) and Rumble was tied for third (74). Lazore shot a 75 in round two as he was tied for third after the fall portion of the E8 championship.
SUNY Canton finished runner-up at the Keuka Spring Invitational kicking off their spring season on April 9 as
Marion, Lazore and Rumble were all in the top six individually.
Rumble fired the lowest 36-hole total of the spring portion of the Empire 8 Championship on April 19 and 20 at Lebanon Country Club as he finished alone in third place for the entire four-round championship with a score of 310 (+26: 74-79-80-77). Lazore finished the E8 Championship tied for ninth (317), while Marion was tied for 11th (319). Rumble was named Empire 8 First Team All-Conference and the Rookie of the Year as the
rookie player with the lowest score at the championship. Lazore and Marion earned Second and Third Team All-Conference honors, respectively.
During the season Marion was named Empire 8 Men's Golfer of the Week three times (9/2/25, 9/22/25, 10/7/25), while Rumble picked up the honor twice (9/9/25, 4/21/26). Rumble was named
Co-Male Rookie of the Year at the 2026 Roodys, while Marion was honored on the
College Sports Communicators (CSC) At-Large Academic All-District Team.
Harlee Besio, Marion,
Kyle Murphy and Rumble were all named to the
Empire 8 Fall 2025 President's List, while Lazore, Marion and Rumble earned spots on the
E8 Spring 2026 President's List. Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester, while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
The Roos are expected to lose Marion and
Ben Wiley to graduation.
