SEASON IN REVIEW: 2026 Softball

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton softball team played a 28 game schedule including eight games in sunny Myrtle Beach in their second season as a member of the SUNYAC under second year Head Coach Kelsy Waite during the 2026 season.

The Roos picked up their first win of the season with a 12-3 run-rule win in the opener of a doubleheader against VTSU Johnson on April 1 at home. Madelin Maquart, Molly Dowson and Rylynn Martin-McInytre recorded two hits each, while Dowson, Martin-McIntyre, Adrianna Mathusa and Ace Rogers combined to drive in 10 of the team's 12 runs. Sydney Tanner earned the win on the mound scattering three runs with a strikeout over 4.1 innings.



The team picked up its first ever SUNYAC win on April 11 winning the nightcap 6-4 against Route 11 Rival Potsdam. Cassandra Forrest and Bridgette Fox led the Canton bats with two hits each, while Tanner threw a complete game with four strikeouts and three earned runs in the victory. The Roos had another close loss in their final day of the season bringing the tying run to third base in the sixth inning of an eventual 5-4 loss to Morrisville.

Marquart paced the Roos during her rookie season hitting .380 with a .424 on-base % posting team-highs of 38 total bases, 30 hits, 17 runs and a triple to go with six doubles. She was named SUNY Canton Athletics Co-Female Rookie of the Year at the department's end-of-year awards ceremony.
 
Fox led Canton with seven doubles driving in 13 runs during her rookie season while adding 16 hits and a .329 on-base %. Ava Bouchey also hit .273 with a .324 on-base % and registered 18 hits and 11 runs. Cassandra Forrest hit .262 (.300 on-base %) with 17 hits, a homer and drove in 10 runs.

Tanner did a majority of the pitching for the Roos logging 79.0 innings on the mound with eight complete games earning both of the team's wins with 32 strikeouts. Fox tossed 37.1 innings with 16 strikeouts, while Arianna Fox threw 30.1 innings with 11 strikeouts.
 
Rogers, Tanner and Jordyn Tarbox were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team as they were sophomores or older maintaining at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and participated in at least 90% of their team's contests or started 66% of their team's games with pitchers throwing 35 or more innings.
