Marquart Records Five Hit Day as Roos Wrap up 2026 Season vs. Mustangs

Canton, NY – Madelin Marquart recorded five hits across a pair of games, but the SUNY Canton softball team closed out its 2026 season with a pair of losses to Morrisville on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Mustangs did nearly all of their scoring damage in the opening inning with four runs on two hits, a walk and a pair of Canton errors.
  • Morrisville used three hits including a pair of doubles to add what proved to be a key insurance run in the top of the fifth.
  • Canton got one run back in the bottom of the inning when Ivy Ostrander scored Marquart who reached on a one out single.
  • The Roos rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Cassandra Forrest led off the frame with a base hit up the middle on a full count. Bridgette Fox followed with a double in the gap to right center. With two outs Jordyn Tarbox came through with a two RBI double to left field. Marquart moved Tarbox to third on another single and Tarbox would later score on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt by the catcher to get Canton within 5-4 after six full innings.
  • Morrisville got runners to second and third with one out in the seventh, but Sydney Tanner was able to get a fly out and ground out to end the scoring threat.
  • In their final at-bats Canton got a leadoff single from Molly Dowson but a strike out and double play ended the game.
  • Marquart led the Canton bats going 3-for-4 with a run as she had a double and two singles. Dowson also had a pair of hits and Fox and Tarbox each had a double with Tarbox driving in a pair.
  • Gracie Battles led Morrisville going 3-for-3, while Sara Brefka and Hannah Brennan registered a pair of hits each.
  • Piper Kaylor picked up her second win of the season allowing three earned runs with seven strikeouts and a walk in the complete game effort.
  • Tanner took the loss scattering four earned runs with two strikeouts and three walks over seven innings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 2 –  BOX SCORE
  • The Mustangs scored one unearned run in the opening inning of the nightcap before Canton responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Marquart led off with a single and later scored on an Ostrander RBI base hit up the middle. Fox brought in the other run in the inning when she plated Ava Bouchey on an RBI single after Bouchey singled earlier in the inning.
  • It was all Morrisville from there as they added three unearned runs on two hits and two errors in the second inning.
  • They tacked on six more runs in the third, three of which were unearned, as they recorded five hits but three errors by the Roos proved costly in the frame.
  • The Mustangs concluded the scoring with seven runs (four unearned) on five hits and an error in the fourth inning for the 17-2 win in five innings.
  • Forrest went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Roos with a double, while Marquart was 2-for-3. Ostrander and Fox drove in the Canton runs.
  • Callie Lafontaine had a big outing for Morrisville going 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and four RBI, while Kaylie Kendrick was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
  • Gracie Battles picked up the win throwing three innings giving up two runs with a strikeout and two walks.
  • Bridgette Fox took the loss surrendering six earned runs with a strikeout and three walks in 4.1 innings. Tanner threw two-thirds of an inning of scoreless ball in relief.
