Fox Homers, Bouchey Gets Two Hits in Twin Bill with Cortland

Canton, NY – Bridgette Fox hit the longest ball of the day with a home run out to deep-center field in game two, Ava Bouchey was 2-for-4 with a double, but the SUNY Canton softball team was downed twice by the Cortland Red Dragons in conference action at home Friday.

Cortland scored early and often in game one, leading to their 16-1 victory in five innings and a 13-run fourth inning in the next game gave the Red Dragons the boost they needed to secure the sweep, winning 20-1 in the back end of the doubleheader.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Game 1: Cortland 16, SUNY Canton 1 (5 Inn.) | Game 2: Cortland 20, SUNY Canton 1 (5 Inn.)
  • Location: SUNY Canton Softball Field – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (2-24, 1-15 SUNYAC) | Cortland (21-14, 12-4 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Cortland's offense was on display early with three doubles along with many walks and  singles to score seven times in the first two innings.
  • Bouchey led off the second inning with a nice base hit, and later with Ivy Ostrander on first and Bouchey on third, Ostrander drew a throw down at second, stealing a base while Bouchey got home with her own stolen base as the game was now 7-1.
  • Unfortunately, though, Cortland responded with their biggest inning right after that, scoring six runs.
  • After it was 16-1 after four innings, Sydney Tanner had a nice shutdown inning in the top of the fifth.
  • Into their final at-bats, Ivy Ostrander had the second SUNY Canton hit of the afternoon with a single up the middle, but her comrades did not join her on the bases as the Roos fell 16-1 in the first game.
  • Bouchey cracked a hit and scored a run while Ostrander was the only other SUNY Canton player with a base hit. Both Bouchey and Ostrander had one stolen bag each as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • Molly Dowson walked and Bouchey delivered an opposite field double in the bottom of the first, but Dowson could not make it home on the play, and two were left stranded in scoring position in the bottom of the first.
  • After the Red Dragons bats could not find it in the first, a home run started things in the top of the second, then a couple hits, walks, and wild pitches later, Cortland found themselves plating six runs in the frame to get ahead 6-0.
  • On the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning, Bridgette Fox launched a ball high and over the wall in the deepest part of the ballpark in center field as the Roos got on the board.
  • However, after one run in the third inning, the Red Dragons had a monstrous performance in the fourth with 10 hits, a few errors, and several walks which led to 13 runs coming around to score.
  • Beyond Fox's homer in the second, the Roos had a rough go at the dish, and Cortland retired the final 12 batters of the game as game two ended with a final score of 20-1 in five innings.
  • In addition to Fox's bomb, Bouchey had another hit in game two, this one going for extra bags as a double.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos will conclude the 2026 season at home tomorrow (5/2) with two games against Morrisville beginning at 12 p.m.
