Ostrander & Bouchey Record Hits in Twinbill at Fredonia

Fredonia, NY – Ivy Ostrander and Ava Bouchey each recorded a hit in the opener but the visiting SUNY Canton softball team dropped both ends of a SUNYAC doubleheader at Fredonia on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Fredonia jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring three runs on two hits, a walk and an error in the opening inning.
  • Ostrander had a single in the first inning for the Roos and Sydney Tanner used strong pitching to keep Canton within striking distance down 3-0 through three innings.
  • The Blue Devils tacked on three more runs on three hits and an error in the fourth inning before plating two more runs on three hits and an error in the sixth for the 8-0 run-rule win.
  • Ostrander and Bouchey had the lone hits for the Roos in the opener.
  • Arianna Lerouzes, Alexa Bogad, Avery Hill, Chloe Whittingham and Kim Dorane paced the hosts with two hits each with Hill driving in a pair.
  • Kendall Phillips picked up the win for Fredonia throwing a complete game two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
  • Tanner took the loss surrendering five earned runs with five strikeouts and two walks in 5.1 innings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 2 –  BOX SCORE
  • The hosts once again got off to a quick start in the nightcap taking advantage of a pair of Canton miscues along with a walk and hit to score three unearned runs in the opening inning.
  • Fredonia added one run in the second and tacked on three in the fourth and one in the fifth in another 8-0 run-rule win.
  • Sabrina Edwards-Smith tossed a complete game no-hitter for Fredonia with two strikeouts and a walk. Bouchey reached in the second on the lone Fredonia error spoiling the perfect game, while later that inning Emily Hobart drew the lone walk on a full count.
  • Arianna Steele allowed just three earned runs for Canton with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.1 innings.
  • Madison DeVore and Brooke Caldwell led the Blue Devil bats as both players recorded two hits and drove in two runs each.

The Roos are back in action for another SUNYAC doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday at Oneonta.
