Canton, NY – Five members of the SUNY Canton softball and baseball teams have been named to their respective Academic All-District teams.
The all-district teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on their respective playing surfaces and in the classroom.
To be eligible for the honor student-athletes need to be sophomores or older, maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, have participated in at least 90 % of their team's contests or started 66 % of their team's contests. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances OR pitched 35 innings. A max of five members per team are eligible to win the award.
Ace Rogers,
Sydney Tanner and
Jordyn Tarbox from the softball team were recognized, while
Zander Johnson and
Eliezer Vázquez from the baseball team were honored.
Rogers, a junior Criminal Investigation major, started all 28 games for the Roos recording seven runs and driving in three more.
Tanner, a junior Applied Psychology major, started 14 of the 20 games she appeared in on the mound throwing eight complete games. She finished the season tossing 79.0 innings with a pair of wins while recording 32 strikeouts.
Tarbox, a sophomore Criminal Justice: Law Enforcement Leadership major, started 24 of the 25 games she appeared in, logging three hits, three runs and three RBI.
Johnson, a junior Criminal & Forensic Investigation major, started eight of his 12 appearances on the mound in his first season with the Roos. He tossed 54.0 innings earning a pair of wins and two saves recording 49 strikeouts.
Vázquez, a junior Physical Therapist Assistant major, started 28 of the 30 games he appeared in registering a .286 batting average, .314 on-base % with 32 hits, 10 runs, nine doubles, one homer and 17 RBI.
