Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team competed in 34 games as six players were recognized on the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West All-Conference Second Team under second year Head Coach
Wilson Matos following the 2024 season.
The Roos opened their season with three games in the Bison Baseball Classic in the nation's capital in late February. After a three-game series at Oneonta, the team took a spring break trip to sunny Florida where they played seven contests.
The team picked up its first win of the season in the front half of a doubleheader with Utica on March 27th.
Edilberto Rosado went a perfect 3-for-3,
Nick Shoemaker and
Danny Santana had multi-hit games and
Keegan Franklin won his first game in a Canton uniform.
SUNY Canton earned its next win of the season on April 23rd splitting a doubleheader at SUNY Poly.
Nick Barone and Shoemaker had two hits each with
Barone driving in three runs in the 7-6 win in the opener.
Canton recorded its first home win of the season in another split this time against Eastern Nazarene College on April 26th as
Shoemaker surpassed the 100 career hit mark.
During the season
John LaPorte and
Eliezer Vazquez earned weekly accolades from the NAC as they were named the Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on March 4th.
Following the season Rosado,
Alphonse Fuca, LaPorte,
Maxwell Rose, Shoemaker and Vazquez were named
NAC West Second Team All-Conference, while
Hunter LaValley was recognized on the Sportsmanship Team. Henry and LaValley earned
CSC Academic All-District honors, while
Jake Detlefsen, Franklin,
Mike Henry, LaValley, Rose,
Michael Sandarr and Vazquez were honored on the
NAC All-Academic Team.
