Utica, NY – Nick Barone recorded two hits and drove in three runs in the opener to lead the Roos to a NAC split on Tuesday at SUNY Poly.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning when Edilberto Rosado scored on a passed ball and Maxwell Rose drew a walk to score Barone.
- Canton added four runs in the second inning to lead 6-0 after their at-bats in the second. Barone hit a bases-clearing double to score Alphonse Fuca, Rosado and Matthew Brandes. Rose then reached on an error with two outs scoring Barone.
- The Wildcats got one back in the second and third innings and plated three in the fourth to get within 6-5 after four innings.
- The Roos added what proved to be a crucial insurance run in the fifth when Nick Shoemaker singled home Brandes.
- SUNY Poly got one run back in their final at-bats on a leadoff Ryan Pelton solo shot, but Javier Chico sat down the next three batters in order to secure the win.
- Barone and Shoemaker had two hits each combining to drive in four runs. Fuca and Brandes had the other Canton hits.
- Will Orlando led Poly with three hits, while Parker Wing and Pelton had two each.
- Daniel Aviles threw three and two-thirds innings allowing four earned runs with three walks to pick up the no-decision. Chico earned his first collegiate win allowing one earned run on just two hits with a walk in 3.1 innings.
- Boston Reyes took the loss for the Wildcats giving up five earned runs with a strike out and four walks in 1.1 innings.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Wildcat bats exploded for 29 runs on 23 hits in the nightcap. Poly scored seven runs each in the first and fourth innings, put up an 11 spot in the fifth frame, and added two each in the third and sixth innings.
- The Roos plated a pair of runs in the second on a pair of Brandes and Rosado RBI singles scoring Fuca and Frank Nieto, respectively. Canton added a third run in the sixth when Shoemaker drew a walk to plate Fuca.
- Four players had one hit each for Canton. Kurt Johnson led Poly with a 5-for-5 six RBI performance as he was one of five different Wildcats to homer in the game.
- Ryan Secor was credited with the no-decision for Poly tossing 1.2 innings allowing two runs with four walks and a strike out. Connor Marcello picked up the win in relief allowing one run with five walks and four strike outs in 3.2 innings.
- Michael Sandarr took the loss for Canton giving up nine runs with two walks in 2.2 innings.

The Roos are back in action on Friday when they host Eastern Nazarene College for a nine-inning NAC game at 3 p.m.
