HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos jumped out to a 4-0 lead scoring four times in the fourth inning. Rosado singled home Mike Henry and Alphonse Fuca hit a 2 RBI single to bring across Rosado and John LaPorte. Nick Barone concluded the scoring in the inning when he plated Shoemaker on an RBI single to center.
  • SUNY Canton extended its lead to six in the top half of the fifth on a pair of LaPorte and Shoemaker sacrifice flies.
  • Utica got two back in the fifth and one more in the sixth to get within three runs after six innings.
  • The Roos added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh as LaPorte and Shoemaker both scored on wild pitches.
  • Rosado was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and drove in another. Shoemaker and Danny Santana also had multi-hit outings with Shoemaker scoring twice and driving in a run. Fuca finished with a pair of RBI.
  • Josh Duval, Jason Story and Jacob Scalise all had multi-hit games for Utica.
  • Keegan Franklin earned his first collegiate win tossing five innings allowing two runs with a strike out and walk. Kayden Guerin shut the door throwing the final two innings giving up one run with two strike outs and a walk.
  • Tim Martin took the loss for Utica surrendering four runs with three strike outs and a walk in 3.1 innings.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos got on the board first in a low scoring second game when LaPorte scored Tom Santo on a sacrifice fly in the third.
  • Utica knotted things up in the sixth inning with an infield single as the game originally scheduled for seven innings would need extra innings to separate the two teams.
  • Both teams had their chances in the eighth as Canton had runners on the corners with two outs and Utica had the winning run reach third, but the teams would head to the ninth still tied at one.
  • The Roos drew a leadoff walk and moved the runner to second with one out, but a strike out and the baserunner getting caught stealing ended the threat.
  • In the bottom of the ninth Utica would benefit from an error and a two out RBI single would prove to be the difference as the Pioneers earned the walk-off win.
  • Shoemaker, Eliezer Vazquez and Santo had two hits each in the nightcap for Canton.
  • Story led Utica with a pair of hits including a triple.
  • Jack Krug went the distance for Utica earning the complete game win with eight strike outs and two walks.
  • Barone took the loss for Canton throwing the final 1.2 innings allowing an unearned run with a strike out and two walks.
