Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team improved their win total by five tying the program record for win percentage and made their second consecutive SUNYAC playoff appearance in their third season in the league under fourth year Head Coach
Kalie Hart during the 2025-26 campaign.
The Roos started the season off with five consecutive wins as they were receiving votes in the USCHO Top 15 national poll. The wins included a 3-1 and 5-1 sweep at Stevenson and a 9-0 and 5-0 sweep of MCLA at home. Canton also won their SUNYAC opener 2-1 against Morrisville on November 14.
After dropping three straight games, the team bounced back losing just once over their next six contests as they swept Chatham 3-1 and 3-0, went 1-0-1 with a 3-2 win and 2-2 OT tie against Utica in Lake Placid and earned a 2-1 win against St. John Fisher.
After another three-game skid the Roos bounced back with a great stretch of hockey from late January into mid-February with a 3-0-2 stretch in SUNYAC play. The team went unbeaten in a home-and-home series with Oswego.
Molly Lenihan registered a 44 save shutout in a 1-0 win at Oswego on January 30 and
Sydney Valiquette recorded a pair of assists in a 2-2 tie the next day.
The next weekend
Anna Pavlasova tied the game with just 13.1 seconds left in regulation to earn a 1-1 OT tie at Cortland on February 6. The following afternoon
Jane Pancoe scored twice in a 4-1 win at Morrisville. The Roos concluded their unbeaten stretch on February 13 with a 3-2 home win against Potsdam as
Canton went 2-for-2 on the power play.
The unbeaten streak came to a halt with a 4-0 loss to No. 13 nationally-ranked Plattsburgh on February 14, but the team bounced back with a 2-1 home win against William Smith and a 3-3 OT tie against Buffalo State the following weekend. The Roos finished 4-1-3 over their final eight games of the regular season.
The Roos made earned their second consecutive playoff berth as they led 2-1 on the road at William Smith before the Herons tied the game in the final 30 seconds and earned a 3-2 win in OT.
During the season five players earned seven different weekly awards from the SUNYAC. Lenihan was named the Goaltender of the Week three times (12/8/25, 2/2/26, 2/9/26).
Lucy Beal (11/10/25),
Riley Andzel (12/8/25) and
Danika Lalonde (2/23/26) earned Athlete of the Week honors once each, while
Taylor Stoll was named Rookie of the Week (11/10/25).
At the
SUNY Canton Athletics department's end-of-year awards ceremony Asha Hanson earned the highest female GPA in the graduating class, Lenihan was named the Female Defender of the Year and the women's hockey team earned one of two team Make-A-Difference awards.
Sydney Valiquette and
Ally Bickford were recognized with the
Outstanding Bachelor's and Associate's Graduate Awards, respectively, and were both recently honored at SUNY Canton's Commencement on May 9, 2026.
Roos in the Record Books
- Danika Lalonde and Molly Lenihan set numerous records this season for the Roos.
- Lalonde finished with D-III era program records of 38 career assists and 103 consecutive games played while also tying the single-season program record with 14 assists.
- Lenihan recorded program records of single-season save % (.941) and goals against average (1.68), most saves in a shutout (44) and is the current career leader in both save % (.935) and GAA (1.98).
- The team also set numerous season records including power play conversion rate (25%), fewest goals allowed (44), team save % (.933), team GAA (1.67) and tied the program record for win % (.577) and fewest losses (9).
