THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 4, Morrisville 1
  • Location: Morrisville Ice Plex – Morrisville, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (11-7-3, 3-5-2 SUNYAC) | Morrisville (3-18-0, 1-9-0 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the first period. SUNY Canton had a decent amount of zone time and generated 13 shots on net. The Mustangs had only four shots on goal but had a couple decent cracks on Alyssa Townsley.
  • The Roos earned their first chance on the power play with around 13 minutes left in the second period and took advantage in a big way. Isabella Paswaters took a shot just inside the left point and it was tipped out in front by Kyra O'Keefe, sneaking past Morrisville netminder J'Anne Colbow for the opening goal.
  • Both teams had nine shots on goal in the second period as the game headed into the third period with the Roos up 1-0.
  • Just 34 seconds into the third period, Jane Pancoe scored on a shot from the point that found its way past Colbow.
  • Pancoe's second goal of the period came on the power play with the junior taking it behind the Roos net, skating all the way down the ice and firing a shot near the right faceoff dot high glove side that Colbow could not make a save on as SUNY Canton earned themselves a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Mustangs spoiled the potential shutout by scoring on one of their power play attempts in the final few minutes, but with one second left, Chamonix Jackson joined Pancoe and O'Keefe in the scoring column with an empty net goal as the Roos finished the game with a three-goal lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pancoe's three-point night was her first of her career. The senior is now up to eight points on the season after putting up just four in the previous two seasons combined.
  • Scarlett Smith scored the lone goal for the Mustangs while Avery Holland and Jorja Gilis totaled helpers on the play.
  • The Roos capitalized on two of four power plays in the afternoon matchup while Morrisville was also 50% on the man-advantage going 1-for-2. SUNY Canton won shots on goal 35-22.
  • Townsley moved to 4-1-0 on the season after making 21 saves on 22 shots. Colbow had a solid game in net with 31 saves on 34 shots faced.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos will next look to defend home ice with a matchup in the Route 11 Rivalry against Potsdam next Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m.
