HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canton had multiple quality scoring opportunities in the second half of the first period with the best chance coming on a slight breakaway chance from Isabella Paswaters, but her shot was turned aside by Oswego goaltender Ava Christensen.
- The Lakers held a 15-8 shots advantage in the opening period as the teams were scoreless after 20 minutes.
- Oswego was whistled for a five-minute major boarding penalty at 8:11 of the middle period. Christensen stopped the first eight shots she faced but it was the ninth that paid off when Valiquette swung a pass to Jane Pancoe at the blue line. Pancoe's shot was redirected out in front by Cote for the power play goal. The Roos outshot the Lakers 17-6 in the second period and led 1-0 after two periods.
- Oswego responded with back-to-back third period goals less than four minutes apart. Julia Power lit the lamp at 7:42 on an unassisted tally before Jenna Majewski gave the Lakers their first lead of the weekend off passes from Helen Gandamme and Elizabeth Cooley at 11:13.
- The Roos found the equalizer at 17:09 when Valiquette fed the puck to Anna Pavlasova at the point. Her shot went wide off the end boards, but the puck deflected right to O'Keefe at the near post as she fit a quick shot in short side past the glove of Christensen.
- Neither team would find the back of the net in the final minutes as the teams would skate to overtime.
- Canton had the better of the chances in the extra session as Paswaters nearly scored and Pavlasova made a great move but lifted her backhand attempt just high. The Roos outshot the Lakers 3-0 in OT, but the game would go down as a tie.
- Oswego won the shootout 3-1 as they made all of their attempts, while Riley Andzel made the lone shot for Canton.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
