Lalonde Scores, Lenihan Saves 44 in Shutout Road Victory at Oswego

Oswego, NY – Danika Lalonde tallied a goal in the third, and Molly Lenihan's spectacular season continued with a 44-save shutout as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team picked up a big 1-0 road win over the Oswego State Lakers Friday afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 1, Oswego State 0
  • Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena & Convocation Center – Oswego, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (10-7-1, 2-5-0 SUNYAC) | Oswego (10-8-2, 4-3-0 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton was on their heels early on with Oswego getting set offense and pouring on the shots on Lenihan.
  • A penalty halfway through the first period did not help matters for the Roos, but Lenihan made a couple of saves and SUNY Canton killed it off.
  • The final five minutes of the period were much better, and SUNY Canton got shots by Bailey Cote, Sydney Valiquette, and Lalonde who had the best look with under a minute left off a backhand shot in the low slot turned aside by Mia Devivo for the Lakers.
  • The scoreless tie headed into the second period with the Lakers leading shots on goal 14-2.
  • Lalonde got free for a breakaway three minutes into period number two where Devivo made a nice pad save on. Kyra O'Keefe had another good look not long after but did not capitalize.
  • The Roos killed another Oswego power play in the period, and Lenihan made two big saves with under a minute left as the game headed into the final 20 minutes still at 0-0. Shots on goal were 28-6 in favor of the hosting Lakers by period's end.
  • With 11:09 left in the game, Danika Lalonde entered the attacking zone on the near side boards. She fired a shot towards the low slot, and the puck was deflected in by a stick of an Oswego defender for the first goal of the game.
  • Oswego had some good zone time after trailing, but Chamonix Jackson drew a critical penalty with 3:52 left. SUNY Canton never had any great looks but kept the puck away from Lenihan on their defensive end.
  • Oswego pulled the goaltender with a minute left, but the Roos had a couple zone clears, then Lenihan put the cherry on top of an amazing night with two saves in the final 10 seconds as the Roos took the 1-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lalonde's goal was her second of the season and her team-best 14th point. Sydney Valiquette had an assist for her fifth apple of the season.
  • Oswego State quadrupled the shots on goal that SUNY Canton did, 44-11. Teams were a combined 0-for-6 on the power play with the Roos going 0-for-2 and the Lakers failed to score on four attempts.
  • Lenihan's 44 saves were her second highest of her career and the most in the 2025-26 campaign. It was also her sixth shutout of her career. Devino had 10 saves on 11 shots on goal for Oswego.
