SEASON IN REVIEW: 2021 Women’s and Men’s Cross Country

Canton, NY – The women's and men's cross country teams competed in five races during the 2021 season.

Freshman Lydia Snow led the Roos in three of five races for the Lady Roos this fall. The Waterville, NY native was named the NAC Rookie of the Week on October 19th after posting a sixth place finish out of the 67-runner field at the Cross Country Only Championships (CCOC) on October 16th. Snow had two top six finishes and four top 20 showings on the season.

Senior Katlynn Allen led Canton in the Roos other two races as she finished in 11th place individually out of 35 runners at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Classic. Allen saved her best race of the season for last posting a seventh place finish out of 68 runners at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship on October 30th.

SUNY Canton's best team performance of the fall came when they finished in 5th place (172) out of 10 teams at the NAC championship, their final meet of the season. For her top seven performance at the championship Allen was named NAC First Team All-Conference.
 
Senior Ben York led the Roos in four of five races this fall. The Auburn, NY native finished in the top 10 at the season-opening Castleton Invitational. He also raced to a 17th place performance out of 67 runners at the Cross Country Only Championships on October 16th. York recorded a top 40 showing at the NAC championship on October 30th.

Tyler Shorette led Canton in their other race of the fall when he placed 35th at the Vermont Tech Invitational. The Roos had one third place finish and three fifth place finishes as a team in their five outings.
Lailah Emad and Ben York both earned spots on the NAC Sportsmanship Team. The Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees positively affect the cross country culture and environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond the sport playing rules and etiquette.

The Roos are expected to lose Allen, Malyssa Shenko, Owen Kuca and York to graduation.
