Megan Cowles led the SUNY Canton men's and women's cross country teams as the Roos opened the season at the VTSU Castleton Invitational on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johnson covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 31:40 to finish in 13th place out of 46 runners. Justin Bormann was just over a minute behind in 17th place. Wilfried Ulrich Feukouo (23rd), Matthew Pietryka (27th) and Logan Bradley (28th) rounded out the scoring runners for the Roos.
- The men finished in fourth place out of four teams with 86 total points. Norwich won the team title with 20 points ahead of SUNY Cobleskill (52). Nick Recore won the individual title for the Fighting Tigers in a time of 28:46.

- Cowles led the Canton women covering the 5-kilometer course in a time of 31:13 to place 21st out of 31 runners. Sophia McKiernan (22nd), Sydney Pelerin (24th) and Jenna Leshkevich (25th) competed in their first race for the Roos.
- SUNY Canton was one of three teams to compete as individuals as five runners are required for a team score.
- SUNY Cobleskill won the team title with 18 points ahead of Norwich (45). Cobleskill's Lilianna Peters won the individual title in a time of 20:27.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return to the trails next Saturday, September 7th, when they take part in the Randolph Knights Maple Syrup Challenge. The women take off at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 12 p.m. Â
