Box Score Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team outscored visiting Cazenovia College 9-3 in the second half but fell just short, 16-12, on Saturday.
The Roos scored five goals in the final 3:13 of clock time and outscored the Wildcats 6-1 in the fourth quarter to make a tight game of it late.
Tanner Pratt (Canton, NY) led the attack with five goals, while
Cam Carter (Colonie, NY) found the back of the goal three times including twice in the closing minutes.
Garrett DiTullio (Potsdam, NY) assisted two scores on the day.
Eric Hanover led Cazenovia (6-3) with five goals while Kyle Kingsley and Brandon Maxson posted three goals each.
SUNY Canton (3-6) scored the first two goals of the contest off the sticks of Pratt and
Ryan Cardiff (Albany, NY) to lead 2-0 after one minute of play. The Wildcats would respond tallying the next five markers and led 6-3 after one.
The Roos faced a scoring drought in the second stanza as they were held without a single goal while Cazenovia beat the goalie seven times in the period. The Wildcats led 13-3 at intermission.
Chris Gamble (Carthage, NY) started the second half scoring for the Roos netting his 13th of the season 4:39 into the third. Pratt and Carter added goals in the third to get within 15-6.
Dylan Dix (Rochester, NY) made 13 saves in goal for SUNY Canton, while Pat Boyle picked up the win for Cazenovia turning aside 11 shots.
Jack Keenan (Brasher Falls, NY) had a monster day scooping up 10 ground balls, while
Tony Carden (Franklin, MA) posted nine pick-ups. The Roos held a 22-8 edge in the face-off circle but 30 turnovers and 11 penalties proved costly.
