Mclear Nets Career-High Five in SUNYAC Tilt vs. Cardinals on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Sophomore Jonney Mclear scored a career and game-high five goals and Garritt Palmer had an impressive performance with 19 saves, but visiting Plattsburgh used a strong third quarter to earn a 13-8 win in SUNYAC men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

The Roos recognized eight players: Michael Newcomb, Tyler Scott, Parker Hunt, Holden Hewlett, Ben Wiley, Lliam Hourihan, Charles Grandaw and Hayden Todd in a pregame ceremony on Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mclear and the Roos got off to a quick start as he scored two unassisted goals less than three minutes into the contest.
  • The Cardinals responded with four unanswered goals from four different players led by a goal and assist from Canton native Ethan Francey.
  • Eli Bullock broke Plattsburgh's scoring streak when he caged his 10th goal of the season. The Cardinals led 4-3 after 15 minutes of action.
  • Francey and Mclear exchanged goals in the second quarter with Mclear's tally coming man-up. Francey would add his third goal of the half for Plattsburgh with 2:13 left as the visitors took a 6-4 lead to intermission.
  • The Cardinals controlled the scoreboard in a pivotal third quarter outscoring the Roos 7-1. Canton's lone goal came from Mclear, his fourth of the game.
  • The hosts held the visitors off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter rallying for three goals but were unable to overcome the eight-goal deficit to start the quarter.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mclear finished with career and game-highs of five goals and points, while Bullock tallied two goals and an assist. Brady Frost chipped in with a goal and assist, and Liam Waite won a game-best 12 faceoffs while picking up four ground balls. Cade Fregoe recorded five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Francey led Plattsburgh with four goals, an assist, four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Jamie Gipe and Peter Urso supplied a goal and two assists each with James Henningsen scoring twice.
  • Cole Orehosky made 11 saves in the win for Plattsburgh, while Garritt Palmer was outstanding with 19 saves and seven ground balls in the loss.
  • Plattsburgh controlled shots on goal (32-19) and ground balls (45-40), while Canton had a slim 13-12 edge in faceoffs. The Roos turned the ball over 21 times, while Plattsburgh coughed it up just 13 times. The Cardinals were 23-for-25 on clears and Canton was 17-for-22. The visitors went 2-for-4 on man-up opportunities, while the Roos were 1-for-5.

The Roos return to SUNYAC action on Wednesday when they host Potsdam in their Pack the Stands game at 7 p.m.
