Grandaw Scores Five in Road Tilt at Oswego

Canton, NY – Charles Grandaw scored a team-best five goals, but a strong start carried host Oswego State to a 26-9 SUNYAC men's lacrosse win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers got out to a quick start scoring the first 11 goals of the game over the first 12 minutes of the contest as Doryn Leclair found the back of the net three times.
  • Jonney Mclear got Canton on the board with 2:35 left in the opening quarter.
  • Oswego scored three more unanswered goals including a pair in the final 20 seconds to lead 14-1 after 15 minutes.
  • The hosts caged the first five goals of the second stanza before a Brady Frost score made it 19-2. Leclair scored again with Charles Grandaw getting on the board as Oswego led 20-3 at intermission.
  • Play was even on the scoreboard in the second half with each team finding the back of the net six times.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Grandaw led the Roos with five goals, while Mclear added two goals and two assists. Ray Lopez Jr. led the team with five ground balls.
  • Leclair paced Oswego with six goals and one assist, while Hayden Coney registered four goals and one assist. Keagan Stevens recorded game-highs of seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
  • Seamus Hand stopped one of the two shots he faced in the first quarter to earn the win for Oswego. Tyler Novak, Anthony Albino and Pat McManus each played a quarter in relief in goal for the Lakers.
  • Hayden Todd made four saves allowing 14 goals in the first quarter in the loss, while Garritt Palmer stopped 16 of the 28 shots he faced over the final three quarters.
  • Oswego controlled shots on goal (46-17), ground balls (48-19) and faceoffs (23-16). The Lakers were 14-for-16 on clears, while Canton was 10-for-24.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos return to action next Saturday (4/18) when they host Plattsburgh at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
