Mclear & Todd Lead Roos in Season Finale at Oneonta

Oneonta, NY – Jonney Mclear scored a team-high four goals and Hayden Todd turned aside a season-high 19 shots, but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell 24-6 in a SUNYAC road contest at Oneonta in their season finale on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to an early lead less than a minute in on Mclear's 22nd goal of the year.
  • The Red Dragons dominated from there scoring 16 straight goals as they held Canton scoreless the remainder of the first half. Oneonta led 3-1 after the opening quarter, but put up 13 second quarter goals to open a commanding 16-1 lead at intermission.
  • Play was much more even in the second half with the Red Dragons outscoring Canton 8-5 after halftime.
  • Mclear scored two Canton goals in the third quarter and Eli Bullock had the other, while Charles Grandaw and Mclear added fourth quarter tallies.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mclear led the Roos with four goals, while Bullock added a goal and two assists to go with three ground balls. Grandaw had Canton's other goal.
  • Thomas Hnis scored five times for Oneonta, while Jamie O'Neil added a goal and six assists. Jason Monopoli chipped in three goals and two assists, while Tommy Hyland had two goals and two assists and John Corvino scored three.
  • Ryan Collins earned the win for the Red Dragons stopping four of the eight shots he faced over the first three quarters, while Ben Thayer made two saves on four shots in the final quarter.
  • Todd made 19 saves and picked up a team-high five ground balls in the loss. The Canton native finishes his career with both the career (676) and single-game (30) saves records for the Roos.
  • The Red Dragons controlled shots on goal (43-12), ground balls (44-20) and face offs (25-8). The hosts were a perfect 18-for-18 on clears, while Canton was 19-for-26.
