Marcy, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches against host SUNY Institute of Technology and York College Saturday afternoon. The Kangaroos fell to the host Wildcats 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 13-25) before defeating the Cardinals 3-0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-8).
After falling 25-20 in a close first set SUNY Canton (14-2) was able to turn the tables in the second set as it defeated the Wildcats 25-20. The Roos had 14 kills, the most of either team, in the second set. SUNYIT was able to use its home court advantage down the stretch edging the visitors in the final two sets. The Wildcats (18-1), who started the season with a loss to the Roos, have rattled off 18 consecutive wins.
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) led all players with 13 kills to go with 10 digs. This was just her third double-double of the season, with one of the other two also coming against the Wildcats on the opening day of the 2013 season.
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) floored seven kills, while
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) tallied a team-high 14 digs.
Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) had an effective match producing eight digs and five kills, while
Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) finished with eight kills.
Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) set up the offense assisting on a match-best 36 kills.
SUNY Canton dominated play in the second match of the day. After taking the first set handily 25-14 the Roos completely dictated play in the final two sets outscoring the Cardinals 50-15.
Bills tallied a match-high seven kills, while Carroll recorded a team-best eight digs. Mynter was the catalyst offensively once again leading all players with 24 assists.
