Roos Shut Out Green Mountain College

Box Score (Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team took control early of Sunday's game against Green Mountain College and never looked back as they blanked the Eagles 20-0 in Canton.

The Roos (3-3) won their second game in a row and third in their last four outings, and in the last two contests have outscored their opponents 37-3. 

Sophomore Jason Thompson (Massena, N.Y.) matched his career-high throwing in five goals on Sunday.  Freshman Chris Gamble (Carthage, N.Y.) followed his four-goal outing on Saturday with three more against Green Mountain.  Freshman Dustin Andrus (Potsdam, N.Y.) added three goals.  Freshman Garrett DiTullio (Potsdam, N.Y.) netted two goals, and senior Rob Gleason (Vestal, N.Y.), sophomores Ryan Cardiff (Albany, N.Y.) and Shawn Spadaccini (Canton, N.Y.), and freshmen Mike Matthews (Canton, N.Y.) and Zarrien Sloan (Waterloo, N.Y.) all had one goal apiece.  Juniors Brian Nowak (Twin Lake, Mich.) and Tanner Pratt (Canton, N.Y.) contributed two assists to Sunday's victory.

Junior Corey Spuck (Rochester, N.Y.) improved to 3-3 with one save in 30 minutes.  Freshman Jeff Hammond (Rensselaer Falls, N.Y.) played the second half and stopped three shots.

The Roos wasted no time getting on the board when DiTullio scored unassisted just 35 seconds into the first quarter.  By the time five minutes ticked off the clock, the home team had built a 5-0 advantage.  SUNY Canton scored seven more goals to close the opening stanza, four coming from Thompson, including three straight over a two-minute stretch and SUNY Canton held a commanding 12-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Four different players scored for the Roos in the second quarter and the lead swelled to 16-0 after 30 minutes and into halftime.  Andrus scored twice in the third quarter sandwiched around Thompson's fifth and final goal, and Matthews scored a man up goal late in the fourth quarter for the final score.

The Roos ended the game with a season-high 50 shots and 57 ground balls and finished 2-for-6 in man up opportunities.

SUNY Canton will look to run their winning streak to three games next Saturday, March 30 when they hit the road for a game at SUNYIT in Utica.
