HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morrisville dominated possession early on with the Roos struggling to take care of the ball. Todd made some great saves to keep SUNY Canton in the game, but the Mustangs found the back of the net twice in the quarter and earned a 2-0 advantage.
- With just 33 seconds left in the first quarter, Charles Grandaw wove through some defenders and scored right outside the crease as the score was 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
- The two teams exchanged goals in the second quarter with the Roos doing a much better job with ball possession. Frost scored from Newcomb early in the half, and then Mclear added two more unassisted goals a bit later.
- The first half ended with a tight 5-4 contest after each side notched three goals in the second period.
- SUNY Canton had another good defensive period early with forcing turnovers and preventing the Mustangs from getting shots off around the net. However, Morrisville netted one on a transition opportunity about halfway through the half.
- Mclear got another one to go, but two Mustangs goals late gave them their largest lead of the game as they were up 8-5 with 15 minutes remaining.
- The defensive battle continued into the fourth quarter. The Roos needed goals but could not get one with Morrisville's defense the key to victory. A late crease violation and an offensive foul ended the last chances for SUNY Canton as they fell 8-5.
