Box Score
Potsdam, NY – Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, CA) found the back of the net twice on the evening and
Nick Vasilopoulos (Montreal, QUE) tallied two assists but the men's hockey team was unable to hang on to an early lead falling 5-3 to host SUNY Potsdam Friday evening at Maxcy Ice Arena. The win improves the Bears to 1-6-0, while the loss drops the Roos to 1-6-1.
Lee Melde (Proctor, MN) got the scoring started 2:46 into the first period when he found the back of the net for the second time this season off a pass from Vasilopoulos. The Bears would respond with two power play goals over a four minute span to take a 2-1 lead after one. Trevor Cope and Billy Pascalli provided the Potsdam scores.
The Roos responded with a power play marker of their own just 1:18 into the second frame when
Kristian Leach (Indianapolis, IN) fed the puck to Giczewski who beat Bear goaltender Shane Talarico. The assist was Leach's team-leading fifth helper of the season. Potsdam regained the lead at the 10:19 mark on a goal by Vinny Caligiuri, taking the 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Bears added an insurance marker when Ryan Miller scored his first goal of the season. Mike Arnold's tally at the 18:06 mark opened the Potsdam lead to 5-2. Giczewski added his second goal of the game and fourth of the season, this one coming in the short-handed variety, with one second left for the 5-3 final.
Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) stopped 39 shots for the Roos, while Talarico made 20 saves for the hosts. Potsdam went 2-for-6 on the power play, while SUNY Canton was 1-for-4 with the skater advantage.
