HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fredonia came into tonight's game as the second-worst penalty killing team in the nation and the Roos took advantage in a big way.
- Not even four minutes into the game, the Roos were on the power play. SUNY Canton won the opening faceoff and then with the puck in the attacking zone for an entire minute, Kelly blasted a one timer off the crossbar, then Sasenbury cleaned up the loose puck right in front of the crease for the game's first goal.
- SUNY Canton tallied their second goal towards the end of the first period after a cross-ice pass from Niko Schoner found Jordan Prepszl who flung a wrister towards the net from the right faceoff dot that found it way through as the Roos were up 2-0 with 4:25 left in the first frame.
- Fredonia was called for another penalty just 13 seconds after SUNY Canton's second goal, and this one began very well for the Blue Devils with the home team getting a couple of zone clears and even forcing a faceoff in the Roos defensive zone.
- However, Nolan Zotter for the Roos skated out of the zone with some serious speed up the ice. He took a clear shot in front of the net which was saved by Charles-Anthony Barbeau, but it was quickly rebounded by Kelly and put in with one second left on the power play as the Roos went up 3-0.
- The first period ended with SUNY Canton enjoying a three-goal advantage as well as a 17-4 edge in shots on goal.
- The second period was sparse in terms of shots on goal with the two squads combining for just 12 in the period. The Roos killed off an early penalty, then Fredonia successfully stoped SUNY Canton's power play with three minutes left in the period.
- The Blue Devils put together some nice shifts in the final minutes of the second period and this eventually paid off with a goal from Gavin Bloder from a sharp-angle nearly at the goal line as Fredonia broke the shutout with 1:07 left in the second period.
- The second period concluded with the Roos still winning 3-1 and holding a 25-8 advantage in shots on goal.
- About midway through the final stanza, the Roos suffered a delayed penalty and Fredonia ended up scoring off their extra attacker on a tip-in by Luke Morris and suddenly, it was a one-goal game with 10:34 left to play.
- 33 seconds after the goal, Fredonia was called for another minor penalty. As the seconds dwindled down Brayden Fryfogle saw an open Colton Alexander heading towards the high slot and Alexander placed one into the net as the Roos scored their third power play goal on the night.
- Just nine seconds later, the Roos scored again to restore their three-goal advantage, this time it was Pringle connecting with Sasenbury for Sasenbury's second tally of the night and the Roos were ahead 5-2 heading into the final eight minutes.
- A couple penalties ensued in the final few minutes, but the Blue Devils never attempted to pull Barbeau as the Roos swept the Lake Erie road trip.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
