Box Score (Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team saw their tremendous season come to a close on Sunday as they lost to Rochester College 3-1 in the third-place game of the 2012 USCAA national championship in Roos House.
The Roos end the season with an incredible 25-4 overall record and they were 13-2 in games on their home court. SUNY Canton closed the regular season with 17 straight wins to capture the third seed in the USCAA national championship. They went 3-1 in the pool play Friday and Saturday and then bested Penn State Fayette in three games in the elimination round to advance to Sunday's competition. The Roos lost in the semifinals 3-0 to Florida College and then forced Sunday's afternoon match to go to four games with a tremendous third set win after falling behind 2-0.

The Warriors prevailed 25-17 and 25-16 in the first two sets. In the third set, the Roos fell behind early trailing 3-1 but a tremendous dig from freshman
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) and a diving save by senior
Danielle Swanston (Burke, N.Y.) and then a kill by the Roos tied the set 3-3. Rochester answered with three straight points of their own before Swanston stopped the run with a kill and then an ace from freshman
Morgan Bills (Walworth, N.Y.) closed the gap to 6-5. After the Roos tied the game at 9-9 a short time later, SUNY Canton ripped off a 5-2 run capped off by a blistering kill down the line from sophomore
Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario). The Roos eventually pushed the match to set point at 24-23 and sophomore
Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, N.Y.) nailed a kill to clinch the 25-23 win.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth contest as the lead switched hands nine times. The Roos started off with a 3-0 run before Rochester answered with a 3-0 run of their own to deadlock the set. Another ace from Bills and a kill from sophomore
Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, N.Y.) put the Roos ahead 8-6. The game was eventually tied at 15-15 before the Roos built a 21-15 advantage with six straight points, including two kills from Bills, a kill from Swanston, an ace from Reynolds, and two hitting errors by Rochester. The Warriors then stopped the run and took control of the set going on to win 25-21 and the match.
Bills, who was chosen for the all-tournament team, delivered a team-high 10 kills to lead the Roos. Reynolds finished with seven kills and two aces. Swanston added eight kills and eight digs. Mynter contributed 25 assists, six kills and three digs. Carroll had 10 digs. Grimshaw collected five kills and two digs and senior
Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) added three kills.
Daemen College won the national championship beating Florida 3-1 in the final game.
