THE BASICS
  • Result: St. Lawrence 3, SUNY Canton 1
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (8-20) | St. Lawrence (16-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • An early 5-4 lead in the first set from the Roos was quickly erased by a 5-0 spurt from the Saints, and a little later, St. Lawrence was doubling up SUNY Canton 12-6.
  • Brooke Hite and Madison Bigelow had kills as part of three straight points from SUNY Canton, but St. Lawrence quickly gained momentum after this, going up by as much as eight in the set, and ultimately winning 25-18.
  • In the second set, SUNY Canton faced a deficit early on, but a 7-1 run from the Roos back by a pair of \ Coulter kills gave SUNY Canton a 14-12 advantage.
  • The intercity rivals then battled neck-and-neck with neither team gaining more than a two-point lead the remainder of the set.
  • With the score knotted at 22, the Saints scored a couple back-to-back with a kill plus a Roo attacking error. Faced with the match point though, SUNY Canton did not deter and kills by Hite and Couter tied it at 24 and overtime ensued in the second set.
  • Setter Lauren Norman fooled the defense with a set over the net for a Roos point as they went up 25-24, but unfortunately, St. Lawrence earned the final three points of the set to win a thriller 27-25.
  • SUNY Canton had a much-improved start to the third set, going up 7-3 early with Abby Raven leading the way off two kills. Raven later added her third kill, and the Roos forced an early timeout with a 10-4 advantage.
  • The Saints slowly closed the gap with a 10-3 run and took a 14-13 lead; however, SUNY Canton battled back and took a 22-18 lead with Isabella Cruz smashing a couple kills.
  • Coulter had two more late kills, and a St. Lawrence attacking error finished the third set at 25-20 in favor for the Roos.
  • The fourth set was a see-saw battle early on, but St. Lawrence took an 18-15 lead in the mid-late stages of the set.
  • The Roos brought it back within a single point but could not tie or jump back into the drivers seat to take the lead, and the Saints pulled away late and claimed the final set with a score of 25-20.
