No. 1 Roos Rally to Beat No. 4 Niagara 5-2; McCambly and Camp Earn Top Honors

(Rochester, N.Y.)- The top-seeded SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team scored five unanswered goals to beat No.4 Niagara University 5-2 in the semifinals of the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League tournament at the Genesee Valley Ice Rink in Rochester, N.Y.

The Roos, who had a first-round bye, improved to 25-6 with their third straight win and will play in the championship game on Sunday at 12:30 against the winner of the University of Buffalo vs. Mercyhurst game Saturday night. 

After the game SUNY Canton's Eric McCambly was named the ECHL Coach of the Year and junior forward Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) was named the Most Valuable Player.  Senior goalie Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) and junior forward Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) joined Camp on the all-ECHL First Team and Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.), John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) and Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas) were named to the ECHL all-Academic Team.

After falling behind 2-0 on Saturday, the Roos quickly answered when Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) scored back-to-back goals, both from Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Corey Spuck (Rochester, N.Y.), to knot the game at two apiece.  Eric Richard (St-Hubert, Quebec) and John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) also scored in the second period and Camp  added an unassisted goal in the final period.  

Merrow improved to 14-6 stopping 31 of 33 shots in goal.  

Trevor Kenney and Marc Deqiulio each scored for Niagara.
