Roos Blast John Carroll 8-1 For Third Straight Win

(University Heights, Ohio)- Seven different players scored a goal Friday night lifting the SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team past John Carroll University 8-1  for their third straight win in an ACHA Division I game in University Heights, Ohio.

The Roos, ranked 21st in the latest ACHA Division I rankings, improved to 21-6 and beat the Blue Streaks for the second time this season after posting an 8-2 win in the opening round of the Blizzard in Buffalo Tournament in December.  SUNY Canton will play 19th-ranked Kent State Saturday night at 8:15 at the Kent State Ice Arena.

SUNY Canton scored two short-handed goals on Friday, both off the stick of leading scorer Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.).  The junior forward started the scoring at the 8:59 mark of the opening period with John Carroll on the power play and then John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) gave the Roos a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room after scoring with 1:07 left in the period.

The Roos then reeled off six more goals in the second period, including Camp's second short-handed tally.  SUNY Canton, who have been out shooting opponents this year 34.2 to 23.9, dominated in that category on Friday as they generated 44 shots and held the Blue Streaks to just 27 attempts.  Freshman goalie Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas) improved to 4-2 this year with 26 saves.

Camp also had an assist and has scored at least three points in the last three games.  Payne also had three points finishing with two assists.  Chris Schmidbauer (San Diego, Calif.) added a goal and two assists.  Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.), Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) and AJ Royce (Somers, Conn.) each had a goal and an assist.  Eric Richard (St. Hubert, Quebec) added one goal and Terry Bradford (Londonderry, N.H.) contribued two assists.

Geoff Abrahams scored for the Blue Streaks and Dan Brick and Steve Hruby combined for 36 saves.
