Wilson And Merrow Lead Roos to 5-3 Win Over Drexel

(Philadelphia, Pa.)- Brad Wilson (Orleans, Ontario) scored two goals and Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) had 33 saves helping the men's ice hockey team beat Drexel University 5-3 Friday night in Philadelphia.

The Roos improved to 6-1 overall and will face the Dragons again Saturday night at 8 p.m.

Wilson also had an assist and Merrow made several huge stops late in the game to preserve the Roos win on Friday.

"Jimmy really bailed us out of several jams in the third period," said head coach Eric McCambley.  "He made two big-time breakaway saves that allowed us to hang on for the win."

SUNY Canton, who has now won six out of their last seven games, came out a bit sluggish on Friday and fell behind 1-0 after a Drexel goal just 6:28 into the opening period.

But the Roos marched right back and took a 2-1 lead when Wilson and senior Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) scored their first goals of the season five minutes apart.

Drexel responded and tied the game off a goal from Ross Denci with 3:30 left in the first period and it was 2-2 heading into the break.

Wilson then netted his second goal of the game off assists from Cook and Corey Frizell (Orleans, Ontario) midway through the second period for the only goal of that stanza that gave the Roos a 3-2 lead.

The Dragons tied the game for the second and final time several minutes into the third period when Dylan Dignan netted a power play goal.

Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) broke the 3-3 deadlock a short time later with his third goal of the year and first game-winner off assists from Wilson and Frizell. Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) then added an empty net insurance goal with 25 seconds left in the period from Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and Kristian Daley (Canton, N.Y.).  It Cibell's first goal of the year as well.

Adam Birmingham had 37 saves for Drexel (1-8).
