(Canton, N.Y.)- Senior forward
Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists and hit a personal milestone Friday night leading the SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team to their fifth straight win as they beat Cornell University 11-3 at the Canton Pavilion.
Talamo's biggest point of the night came in the second period when he assisted on the Roos' third goal. That point was his 100th of his stellar four-year career as the Oswego native now has 36 goals and 66 assists for 102 career points.
The last SUNY Canton player to reach 100 points was Bill Palmer.
SUNY Canton's offense has been on fire lately averaging 9.6 goals during their five-game streak.
That fire looked like it might go out in the first period as the Roos tossed 12 shots on goal but only came away with one score and the game was tied 1-1 after one.
SUNY Canton (15-10) put an end to that thought when
Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) scored his first of three goals at the 4:25 mark of the second starting a run of five straight goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Levy scored again during that run as did
Brad Wilson (Ottawa, Ontario), who had two goals,
John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.), and
Jeremiah Hardin (Alpharetta, Ga.).
Cornell got one back 2:46 into the third period when Trevor Downy scored a power play goal. Downy scored all three goals for the Big Red.
SUNY Canton answered six minutes later when
Mark Stewart (Gansevoort, N.Y.) scored unassisted and then Wilson and Hardin scored again to make it 9-2.
Talamo and Levy completed the scoring with back-to-back goals in the third period after Downy scored his third midway through the final period.
Chris Lee (Gansevoort, N.Y.) made his second start of the season for the Roos and got his second win stopping 15 of 18 shots.
Levy also had an assist in the game and climbed within nine points of joining Talamo in the 100-point club. Levy could eclipse that mark this season with four games left in the regular season, the ECHL tournament and the ACHA national tournament.
Wilson added an assist to his two goals.
Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.) contributed a goal and two assists. Hardin had two assists to go along with his two goals and
Kevin O'Connell (Cadyville, N.Y.) chipped in with three assists.
Doug Cassidy and Connor Buchanen combined to make 21 saves for Cornell.
