SEASON IN REVIEW: 2025-26 Women’s Basketball

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team had another impressive season posting a 19-7 record and earned the three seed in the conference playoffs in their second year in the SUNYAC during the 2025-26 campaign.

This marks the fifth straight season the Roos have posted a winning record under Head Coach Chris Klassen. The team opened the season with a D-III era program record eight straight wins earning home victories against Franciscan (11/7), Delhi (11/9) and Bryant & Stratton College Syracuse (12/1) along with road victories at Clarkson (11/11), SUNY Poly (11/18), Russell Sage (11/22), Utica (12/3) and Morrisville (12/5). The Roos lone blemish on the 2025 portion of the schedule came in a road loss at Cortland, a team receiving votes in the national top 25 polls.

The Roos set a new D-III era program record recording 32 assists on 37 made field goals in the win against the Mustangs on December 5.

The Roos began 2026 with three straight SUNYAC wins at Oneonta along with home victories against Plattsburgh and Potsdam. The team overcame a 13-point second half deficit to stun Oswego in a 59-57 road win on January 16. Sierra Pabo eclipsed the 1,000 career scoring milestone in a home loss to New Paltz four days later.

Canton put together another win streak near the end of January, this one a four-game winning streak with victories against Fredonia (62-54), Buffalo State (73-44), Oneonta (72-41) and Potsdam (79-48).

After a three-game losing skid that included a furious fourth quarter comeback bid against nationally-ranked Cortland, the Roos finished the regular season with three straight SUNYAC home wins against Morrisville (104-66), Buffalo State (84-55) and Fredonia (65-53).

The Roos finished the regular season with a 12-6 mark in SUNYAC play to earn the three seed in the playoffs as they hosted the six seed Oneonta. The team made the playoffs for the second season in as many years in the conference before ultimately being upset by the Red Dragons.

Kathleen McRobbie and Kate Grainger were both named SUNYAC Athlete of the Week on November 10 and January 12, respectively. Following the season Pabo was named SUNYAC First Team All-Conference and D3hoops.com Second Team All-Region, while McRobbie was tabbed SUNYAC Second Team All-Conference.
