Forrest’s Three Hit Day Leads Roos vs. Pair of Lions in Myrtle Beach

Little River, SC – Cassandra Forrest recorded three hits on the day to lead the SUNY Canton bats as they dropped a pair of games to Penn State Harrisburg and Penn State Abington on Thursday in Myrtle Beach.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Harrisburg jumped out to a fast start offensively scoring five runs each in their first two at-bats. They struck for five runs on just one hit, two walks and two errors in the opening inning before adding five more runs on three hits, three walks and two errors in the second.
  • Canton got one back in the second when Ava Bouchey drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on an error. Emily Hobart drew a one out walk and stole second before a walk from Jordyn Tarbox loaded the bases for Rylynn Martin-McIntyre. She came through with an RBI infield single to plate Bouchey.
  • The Lions tacked on six more runs in the third and four in the fourth. The Roos added one more in the fourth as Martin-McIntyre led off with a bunt single and stole second with one out and third with two outs. Forrest came through with an RBI base hit to center.
  • Martin-McIntyre led Canton going 2-for-2 with a run, while Forrest had the only other hit and Bouchey drew a pair of free passes.
  • Rylee Martinez paced Harrisburg with a double, triple and five RBI, while Esther Feltenberger also had a pair of hits.
  • Megan Foltz tossed a scoreless inning with a walk in the start, while Anne Carter threw the final four innings picking up the win in relief. She struck out eight and walked five allowing two earned runs.
  • Sydney Tanner took the loss allowing nine earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings as she drew the start and also returned to pitch in relief

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • Penn State Abington came out strong with their bats posting two runs each in the first and second innings.
  • Madelin Marquart led off the first with a double but was thrown out on the basepaths. Molly Dowson singled and scored on a Bridgette Fox RBI double.
  • The Lions added four runs on four hits in the fourth. Canton got one back as Fox drew a leadoff walk, Ava Bouchey singled to right and Cassandra Forrest brought home Fox on an RBI single.
  • Abington added eight runs in the sixth inning for the 16-2 run-rule win.
  • Marquart and Forrest paced Canton with two hits each.
  • Jill Thomas led the Lions with three hits, while Marlena Hacker, Tori Colagreco and Morgan Craig had two hits each.
  • Jess Dinardo earned the win tossing five innings giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts and a walk.
  • Fox took the loss with three strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are off on Friday before closing out their spring break trip with a doubleheader against Cedar Crest and Arcadia at 9 and 11 a.m., respectively, on Saturday.
