Men's Cross Country Nate Hart, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Marketing

Johnson, Leshkevich Lead Roos at Silloway Maple Syrup Challenge

Randolph, VT – Kristian Johnson and Jenna Leshkevich paced the SUNY Canton men's and women's cross country teams for the second consecutive race to start the season at the Silloway Maple Syrup Challenge on Saturday in Vermont.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kristian Johnson led the Canton men covering the 8-kilometer course in a time of 30:39 to finish in 36th place out of 98 runners. Matthew Pietryka crossed the line in 72nd place (35:38).
  • Wyatt Beers (80th – 37:31), Justin Bormann (81st – 37:33) and Gage Perry (83rd – 37:36) rounded out the top five runners for the Roos.
  • Benjamin Hughes won the individual race for Middlebury as the Panthers took three of the top five spots to claim the team title with 22 points ahead of Fitchburg State (71).
  • The Roos finished in seventh place (196) out of eight teams edging out Husson (205).

  • Jenna Leshkevich covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 27:41 to finish in 55th place out of 71 runners. Megan Cowles was the second Canton runner across the line in a time of 29:18 (38th).
  • Kylie Rivera, Sydney Pelerin and Hannah Lapierre rounded out the competitors for Canton in 69th, 70th and 71st places, respectively.
  • Middlebury took the first 14 places individually, winning the team title convincingly with 15 points ahead of Norwich (72) and Western New England (75). The Roos finished in seventh place out of seven teams with 201 points.

The Roos are off next weekend before returning to the trails at the Hoffman Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence on Saturday, September 20th. The men race at 11 a.m. followed by the women at 12 p.m.
