Schroon Lake, NY – Kristian Johnson and
Brielle Smith both set season best times finishing in fourth and eighth places in their respective races to lead the SUNY Canton men's and women's cross country teams at the Word of Life Huskies Cross Country Meet on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
- Johnson covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 28:50, averaging 5:56 per mile over the nearly five mile course. The junior finished in fourth place out of 45 racers recording a season best at the 8K distance as he was just 27 seconds off his career best.
- Matthew Pietryka (18th | 33:58) and Wyatt Beers (20th | 34:19) also clocked season-best times at the 8K distance, while Gage Perry and Jonathan Bedward completed the scoring runners for the Roos.
- SUNY Canton finished in third place out of five teams with 73 points. Truett-McConnell won the team title with 32 points, edging Paul Smith's (44). Clinton Community College (93) and Albany College of Pharmacy (112) rounded out the competing teams.
- Paul Smith's Eliot Soderholm won the individual race in a time of 26:43.

- Smith also ran a season-best time in her second race covering the 6-kilometer course in a time of 27:22, over two minutes faster than her previous race. She finished in eighth place out of 31 runners, averaging 7:49 mile pace.
- Jenna Leshkevich also set a career-best by over two minutes at the 6K distance to finish in 17th place in a time of 30:20.
- Megan Cowles, Kylie Rivera and Sydney Pelerin were the other scoring runners for Canton.
- The Roos finished in fourth place out of four teams with 84 points. Truett-McConnell won the team title with 24 points, while Albany College of Pharmacy was second (39) and Word of Life (74) was third.
