Johnson & Cowles Pace Cross Country for Second Straight Weekend in Vermont

Randolph Center, VT – For the second consecutive weekend to start the season freshman Kristian Johnson and junior Megan Cowles led the SUNY Canton men's and women's cross country teams at the Knights Maple Syrup Challenge on Saturday.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Johnson led the Roos covering the 8-kilometer course in 32:13 to finish in 25th place out of 86 runners. Justin Bormann ran a time of 35:34 for 42nd place, while Matthew Pietryka (44th – 35:40), Logan Bradley (47th – 37:11) and Derick Chavez (53rd – 37:44) rounded out the Canton top five.
  • The Roos finished in fifth place out of eight teams with 149 points. Middlebury won the team title with 23 points ahead of Fitchburg State (52) and Norwich (73).

  • Cowles paced the Canton women covering the 6-kilometer course in 30:08 to place 49th out of 56 runners. Jenna Leshkevich (50th – 30:15) and Sydney Pelerin (53rd – 32:47) also competed as individuals for the Roos.
  • Middlebury won the team title with a perfect 15 points besting the five team field. Norwich finished second (75) and Castleton third (80).

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are off next weekend before racing crosstown at the Hoffman Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence on Saturday, September 21st. The women take off at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 12 p.m.
