Hess Finishes Fourth, Glennon Twelfth at St. Lawrence Invitational

Canton, NY – Senior Jake Hess recorded a final round 77 and freshman Gwendolyn Glennon improved her second round by 12 strokes despite rainy conditions as the duo finished in fourth (153) and 12th places (174), respectively at the two-day, 36-hole St. Lawrence Invitational at Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

Junior Adam Szlamczynski posted a 78 for the second consecutive day as he also finished in the top 10 tying for eighth place individually (156).

HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN
  • Hess went out in 38 before coming home in 39. He had a bogey or better on every hole finishing with a birdie, 11 pars and six bogeys. Szlamczynski posted two birdies, nine pars, six bogeys and a double.
  • Sam Martin improved his round by one stroke on Sunday to finish in a tie for 26th (167). Anthony Marion, who was competing as an individual, had a spectacular second day tying a team-best Sunday round for the Roos shooting a 77 as he improved by 14 strokes finishing tied for 28th (168). John McCall recorded a 30th place (169) finish with an 85 on Sunday. Gavin Neuland rounded out the Canton golfers with an 88 finishing in a tie for 32nd (172).
  • The Roos finished in fourth place out of the nine team field with 645 strokes. St. Lawrence's 'A' team won the team title with 604 strokes, while St. Lawrence 'B' (633) and Clarkson (643) rounded out the top three.
   
HOW IT HAPPENED - WOMEN
  • Glennon had an impressive second day shooting an 81, 12 strokes better than her Saturday round. The rookie went out in 3-over-par 39, which included an eagle on the second hole as she holed out from roughly 200 yards out. She came home in 42 with a birdie on 12.
  • Maddy Thompson posted a 119 on Sunday to finish in 25th place, while Olivia Drino recorded a 154.
  • The Roos only had three golfers compete Sunday due to illness so they did not receive a team score for the final round or event. Ithaca won the team title with 663 strokes edging out Cortland (668). Union also had only three golfers on Sunday and no team score. Utica College finished in third (758).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The men's golf team is back in action on Tuesday at the Clarkson Invitational at Potsdam Town & Country Club. The women return to the course on Saturday when they take part in the Hamilton Invitational at Yahnundasis Golf Club.
