Hess and Roos Win Elmira College Fall Invitational

Elmira, NY – Senior Jake Hess earned medalist honors with a round of 76 and the SUNY Canton men's golf team captured the team title on Tuesday at the Elmira College Fall Invitational at Elmira Country Club.

Hess bested the 58-golfer field by a single stroke and the Roos won the team title by three strokes in a field that featured 12 teams.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos shot a team score of 325 to edge out second place Oswego State (328) and third place SUNY Delhi (329) in a field of 12 teams that featured 10 schools with both host Elmira College and Delhi sporting an 'A' and 'B' squad.
  • Hess carded a round of 4-over par, 76, narrowly edging out Oswego's Ryan Fecco and Hobart's Charlie Craig who both recorded 77's. The senior from Adams went out in 40 before coming home in one-under par, 36. He birdied the par 4 12th hole and the par 4 17th.
  • Canton's Adam Szlamczynski finished in a tie for fourth with a 78. He went out in 42 before making his move with three birdies on the back nine to tie Hess with a second nine 36. Szlamczynski birdied three holes over a four hole stretch with birds on the par 4 13th and 14th and the par 5 16th.
  • Sam Martin posted a round of 85 to tie for 18th, John McCall fired a round of 86 (T-20) and Anthony Marion posted an 87 (T-23). McCall tallied a birdie on the par 5 10th.

The Roos tee it up again next Tuesday when they host the SUNY Canton Invitational at Partridge Run Golf & Country Club at 11 a.m.
