Canton, NY – Kate Whitley had a tremendous defensive performance with five caused turnovers and six ground balls, but the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-1 contest to the Cortland Red Dragons Wednesday at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cortland was on top of their game from the very beginning. The Red Dragons barely allowed any SUNY Canton possession, breaking up three clear attempts and converting on the offensive end. Cortland controlled a 4-0 advantage 5:29 into the game, forcing an early timeout by the Roos.
- The Roos had a couple of successful clears after the timeout which led to shots on net by Nia Shill and Ava Bodnar, but the Red Dragons still scored four more times to go up 8-0 after first quarter's end.
- The Red Dragons commanded the second period and preserved the shutout in addition to adding six more goals in the second quarter to get ahead 14-0.
- Mikela Montes made some nice saves to begin the third quarter, but five more goals towards the end of the period gave Cortland a 19-0 advantage.
- Late in the fourth quarter, Sienna Hillicke made some moves, beating several defenders and scoring low to put the Roos on the board with 2:39 left in the game.
- Despite this though, the Red Dragons played a solid all-around 60 minutes to conclude the game ahead 22-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- SUNY Canton's only goal was scored by Hillicke, her fifth of the year.
- Cortland had nine different players score in the road match and four players who had four goals. Ashley Melillo had three ground balls and three caused turnovers as part of the nice defensive performance by the Red Dragons.
- Shots on goal were won by Cortland 32-4. They also dominated possession and were able to win 21 of the games 25 draw controls.
- Mia Bella Love and Trinity Parks combined for three saves on four shots. Laura Falandys made six saves through the first two quarters for SUNY Canton while Montes had five in the second half.
