Bodnar Continues Hot Freshman Season in Non-Conference Tilt with Clarkson

Canton, NY – Ava Bodnar continued her spectacular freshman season with two goals against the Clarkson Golden Knights in a 24-4 loss Monday at the Canton Turf Field.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Clarkson 24, SUNY Canton 4
  • Location: SUNY Canton Turf Field – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (3-9) | Clarkson (9-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a fairly one-sided first quarter, with Clarkson scoring the first three goals until Ava Bodnar got on board with 8:40 left.
  • However, the Roos had difficulties winning the draw controls and taking care of the ball. The Golden Knights took advantage by scoring six more in the quarter to take a big 9-1 advantage.
  • The second quarter was improved for the Roos. They immediately got on the board in the quarter with a nice clear and then Bodnar scoring from Caroline Nappi.
  • Nappi later scored in the period, but then Clarkson earned four of the next five goals and took a 14-4 lead into the third quarter.
  • Not much went well for the Roos in the third or fourth quarters. Bodnar had a couple open shots in the second half, and Sara Aldous and Sydney Dunn did as well, but the Roos went scoreless post-halftime while Clarkson put on 10 more to pull away and win 24-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • In addition to Bodnar's two goals, Caroline Nappi had two points with a goal plus an assist. Sienna Hillicke scored the other SUNY Canton goal and Sydney Dunn and Kate Whitley had assists for the Roos. Whitley had a great defensive game with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Clarkson was really sharing the wealth with 14 different players scoring in the game. Gabby Cranfield led the way with six goals and three assists.
  • The Golden Knights won the shots on goal battle 29-14. They also picked up more ground balls (21-14) and won draw controls 18-12.
  • Mikela Montes made three saves while Laura Falandys made two in the net for SUNY Canton.
