THE BASICS
- Result: SUNY Canton 11, Morrisville 9
- Location: Drake Field – Morrisville, NY
- Records: SUNY Canton (4-9, 2-6 SUNYAC) | Morrisville (4-7, 1-6 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ava Bodnar found the twine early in the first quarter, circling around the net for a nice backhand goal to put the Roos up 1-0. However, Morrisville earned the next two goals.
- Late in the quarter, Nappi received a nice pass from Sydney Dunn, scoring right in front of the crease, tying the game at 2 after the first quarter.
- Morrisville made it 4-3 in the second, but then the Roos went on one of their best stretches of the season. SUNY Canton was forcing turnovers, drawing cards, and capitalizing on opportunities in the offensive end. The Roos went on a 4-goal run to get ahead 7-4.
- Falandys allowed a late Mustangs goal but had a great period with seven saves on 12 shots as the Roos were in front 7-5 at the half.
- Falandys kept Morrisville at bay again in the third quarter with five saves. The two sides exchanged goals in the third quarter, with Nappi and Kate Whitley earning tallies in the period, but the Mustangs were only down 9-8 heading into the final stanza.
- SUNY Canton got an extra-woman opportunity a couple minutes into the fourth quarter and Sienna Hillicke fired a rocket that hit the twine for a goal.
- The Mustangs responded, but the Roos reclaimed a 2-goal lead with 8:16 to go off of Sydney Dunn's stick.
- The Roos forced a couple turnovers late, and then in the final few minutes, Morrisville could not play defense without fouling, continuing to reset the shot clock as the Roos remained passive to keep possession.
- The final seconds drained off the clock as the Roos went out to win 11-9.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Nappi lead the Roos with three goals with Dunn and Bodnar both had two goals and two assists each. Whitley had a goal, an apple, plus three ground balls. Hailey LaShomb scored twice and grabbed four draw controls.
- Turns out Anyssia Ingersoll, a standout on the Morrisville women's basketball team, can play some lax, too. The team-leader in points had three goals, three ground balls, and seven caused turnovers.
- The Mustangs narrowly won shots on net 21-18, and also led in ground balls (16-12), draw controls (13-9), and had fewer turnovers (20-11).
- Falandys made 14 saves, tied for her season best. Morrisville netminder Aniyah Smith made eight saves on 19 shots faced.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos will conclude the 2026 season with a home contest against Potsdam on Senior Day and Pack the Stands on April 22, at 4 p.m.
