Trey Miller tied a career-high with 43 saves, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to Hobart College in a SUNYAC matchup on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen demonstrated why they're the top-ranked team in the country just 1:14 into the first period when Tamas Toth buried his own rebound to give his team the 1-0 lead.
- Kahil Fontana put the host up 2-0 at 5:49 of the first banging home a one-timer from in tight. Arvega Hovsepyan assisted on the play.
- From there on, the Roos defense tightened up and Miller was spectacular, making 19 first-period saves and keeping Hobart off the scoresheet for the rest of the period.
- Sophomore Logan Kelly pulled the Roos within one at 14:17 of the second period, stuffing home a rebound to make the score 2-1. Freshman Spenser Sasenbury did yeoman's work to create the turnover on the forecheck to create the opportunity and was awarded with the assist.
- Tanner Daniels re-established the Statesmen's two-goal lead just two minutes later stuffing home another rebound to give Hobart the 3-1 edge through two.
- The two teams traded chances in the third, but it was Hobart's Conor Lally who lit the lamp, ripping a slapshot top shelf to extend the lead to 4-1.
- Adam Mendelson scored at the 16:12 mark to make it a 5-1 Hobart final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kelly's goal was his eighth of the year, tying him for the team lead with senior Evan Pringle.
- The Roos were 0/3 on the powerplay and a perfect 2/2 on the penalty kill.
- Hobart had the edge at the faceoff dot winning 41 of 71 draws. Pringle led Canton with eight wins.
- The Roos blocked 15 shots in the game with seniors Scott Cremen and Carson Cox leading the way with two each.
- Miller's 43 saves ties his career high set earlier this season against Plattsburgh. Damon Beaver stopped 28 shots for the Statesmen.
