Pringle Cans Two, Miller Stops 32 as Roos Tie Bears 3-3

Potsdam, NY – Senior Evan Pringle scored a pair of goals and junior Trey Miller made 32 saves as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team tied SUNY Potsdam 3-3 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears jumped on the scoreboard first, with Mason Hoehn scoring the opening goal just 1:01 into the first period.
  • Solid puck movement on the power play helped the Roos knot the game at 1-1 when sophomore Logan Kelly took a quick pass from senior Scott Cremen and blasted home the equalizer at 8:46 of the period.
  • Pringle gave the Roos a 2-1 lead at 1:28 of the second period, out-maneuvering Potsdam goalkeeper Lenny Perno before tucking the puck into the net on Canton's second straight power play goal.  Cremen assisted on the play.
  • Pringle extended the lead less than two minutes later, banging home a shot from the slot to give the Roos a 3-1 lead.  Freshman Colton Alexander earned the assist.
  • Ryan Mahlmeister closed the gap to 3-2 at 5:48 of the second and Andrew Blanchard tied the game 3-3 at 12:33 of the period.
  • After a scoreless third and five-minute overtime, the game was officially scored a tie but the teams would head to a shootout per NCAA rules.
  • In the shootout, Kelly was the lone Roo to score on his opportunity and Trey Miller stopped three of five attempts, but the Bears would win the shootout 2-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pringle's pair of goals gives him eight on the season to lead the team.  He is second in points with 15.
  • Cremen's two assists give him 11 points, moving him into a tie for first with teammate Niko Schoner.
  • The Roos were 2/4 on the power play and a perfect 4/4 on the penalty kill.
  • Canton had an edge at the faceoff dot, going 40/75 with Pringle leading the way (14/22).
  • Miller finished the game with 32 saves while his counterpart Perno stopped 33 shots.
