Roiger Named Athletic Communications Assistant

Canton, NY – Canton native Joey Roiger has been named SUNY Canton's new Athletic Communications Assistant prior to the start of the 2025-26 season.  

As a student at crosstown St. Lawrence, Roiger has worked with the Athletic Communications department in a variety of roles in the sports of volleyball, soccer, basketball, hockey, baseball, softball and lacrosse. He has served as a stats spotter for volleyball and lacrosse and written numerous articles across several sports for the St. Lawrence athletics website. Roiger also has experience clipping video highlights for inclusion on the Saints YouTube channel along with experience in multiple other areas.

"Joey's enthusiasm and passion for the athletic communications industry stood out during the interview process," Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Marketing Nate Hart said. "He has been around sports his whole life and his experience covering several different sports at St. Lawrence as a student assistant will serve him well in this new position. We are looking forward to him joining our team and helping us continue to give our student-athletes top-notch coverage."

Roiger spent this summer as a Communications Intern for the Westfield Starfires, a collegiate summer baseball team out of Westfield, MA. During his time there he assisted in writing game recaps, feature articles and weekly previews for both the team and local media.

"I am honored to be accepted as an Athletic Communications Assistant at SUNY Canton for the upcoming school year," Roiger said. "I look forward to using my skills and knowledge to contribute to the advancement of SUNY Canton Athletics and I am confident the wonderful staff, athletic programs and environment here can help me further facilitate my knowledge in the Athletic Communications field."

Roiger graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton where he was a member of the soccer, basketball and baseball teams.
