Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's soccer team will be hosting its annual Fall ID Clinic on Monday, November 10 from 2-5 PM for prospective student-athletes in grades 9-12, as well as those enrolled in junior colleges or four-year colleges who have filled out the proper release paperwork and documentation.
"Our fall event is an essential component in our recruiting identification and assessment process." Head Coach
Tim Penrod said. "This event has become an opportunity for a second look at kids we have seen in person through various camps, clinics, and recruiting events in a setting that reflects our daily operations. Giving interested student-athletes an opportunity to perform and compete within our top-class athletic facility with our coaching staff is a great opportunity to see how players can impact our program both on and off the field. I cannot overstate how important our clinic is to our recruiting process: over 90% of our current roster are former clinic attendees."
Unlike other ID camps and clinics, the SUNY Canton event provides an opportunity for participants to experience a full training session, work with coaches and current players, and gain a better understanding of the coaching styles of the men's soccer staff. According to Penrod, "We want prospective student-athletes to leave campus with a full understanding of the expectations we have as a staff and provide them an opportunity to get a good feel for what we're about, both on and off the field."
The clinic will include a full training session, goalkeeper specific training, and the opportunity to play in both small-sided and 11 v. 11 games. In order to ensure quality opportunities for the coaching staff to observe each participant, registration will be capped at 35 participants.
While the schedule is subject to change, the below schedule will give interested parties a rough layout of the day:
