Canton, NY – Kahontiio Lazore, a sophomore on the men's golf team, and
Kristian Johnson, a junior on the men's cross country team, have been named this week's Roos of the Week.
Lazore finished in a tie for third place out of 48 golfers after the fall portion of the Empire 8 Championship at Teugega Country Club last Sunday (10/12) and Monday (10/13). The sophomore shot a 73 (+3) in the opening round with two birdies, 12 pars, three bogeys and a double. On Monday he carded a 75 (+5) with two birdies, 10 pars, five bogeys and a double. The Roos sit in fourth place out of the eight team field with 615 strokes (301-314) after leading the tournament after one round. They are just 12 strokes behind the leader St. John Fisher with the final two rounds of the championship to be played in the spring.
Johnson posted a career-best run covering the 8-kilometer distance in 28:16 (5:42/mile) at the Cross Country Only Championships at Seneca Lake State Park on Saturday. He finished in 18th place out of 78 runners beating his previous 8K best by seven seconds. It's the fifth consecutive race Johnson has paced the cross country team to start the season.
