Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's golf team has been picked to finish fourth out of 11 teams at this weekend's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship following a vote of the leagues' 11 head coaches.
The Roos are set to tee it up at Waterville Country Club for the two-day, 36-hole event on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. with the final groups going off at 12:03 p.m.
The Roos were picked to finish in fourth place with 65 points. Husson University was picked to defend its title with 94 points and five first-place votes, while SUNY Delhi was voted second with 85 points and one first-place vote. Thomas (71 points, 2 first-place votes) and NVU-Johnson (61 points) rounded out the top five of the poll in third and fifth places, respectively.
The Roos return two players who competed in the 2021 NAC championship headlined by captain
Adam Szlamczynski. As a sophomore he shot a two-day total of 13-over par, 155 (77-78) to finish alone in ninth place out of 45 golfers.
Jake Hess also returns after shooting a 158 last year to tie for 10th overall (76-82).
SUNY Canton's highlight thus far from the fall season is winning the Elmira College Fall Invitational and the SUNY Poly Invitational. At Elmira they bested a 12-team field at Elmira Country Club. shooting 325 to edge out Oswego State (328) and SUNY Delhi (329). Senior
Jake Hess earned medalist honors with a round of 4-over par, 76. At SUNY Poly the Roos shot a 320 to win the six-team field with Szlamczynski tying for first with a 76. Overall, the team has finished in the top four of six of their eight events so far this fall.
