Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team hosted nearby St. Lawrence University on Tuesday night.
Madison Bigelow and
Emerson Coulter tied for the team lead in kills against the Saints. The Roos dropped a tight match, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead early on behind kills from Madison Bigelow and Clara Bond. St. Lawrence opened an 8-5 advantage and led until a Kaelyn Boliver ace regained the Canton lead at 13-12.
- The set went back-and-forth from there with neither team leading by more than two points the remainder of the frame. With the stanza tied at 24 apiece Bigelow came up big with a pair of aces to secure the first frame 26-24 in favor of Canton.
- Play was once again even in the second stanza with the teams deadlocked at 14 midway through the set. The hosts ran off five straight points that included a pair of kills from Bigelow and three miscues from St. Lawrence as Canton opened a 19-14 lead.
- St. Lawrence responded with a 7-2 run to knot things at 21 apiece. Overall the Saints scored five of the final seven points to secure a 25-23 second set victory.
- The teams were once again even through the start of the third set tied at 13 apiece. Canton scored 10 of the next 13 points to open a 23-16 advantage on its way to a 25-17 victory.
- The Saints came fighting back jumping out to an 8-2 lead to open the fourth frame. St. Lawrence continued to lead by as many as six still holding a 17-11 advantage after a Bridget Gammons kill.
- The Roos chipped away at the lead battling back to get within 22-21 after a Bigelow ace. However, the Saints scored three of the final five points to win the fourth frame 25-23 forcing a decisive fifth set.
- The deciding stanza of the match began with a 4-1 Saints lead. A block from Pelech followed by a kill from Bond tightened the scoreboard to 4-3. St. Lawrence responded with five consecutive points to expand their lead. The Roos climbed back to a 12-9 deficit late in the game before the Saints closed out the match, 15-9.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Coulter and Bigelow tied for the team lead in kills with 12 apiece. Coulter added 12 digs and an assist, while Bigelow rounded out her stat sheet with six aces and three digs.
- The Roos topped the Saints in aces, 18-12. The block total also went in Canton's favor, 9-6. St. Lawrence amassed 54 kills to Canton's 46.
- Boliver led the Roos in assists with 20, bringing her season total to 221 assists, a team-best, while averaging 4.33 assists/set throughout the year.
- Three Roos totaled double-digit digs, including 12 from Coulter and Rylan Walker, and 10 from Boliver.
- Bond and Abby Raven both added eight kills in the team's efforts.
