Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team used strong defense and outscored visiting Potsdam 5-1 in the fourth quarter to earn a 14-7 SUNYAC win in the season finale for both team's on Wednesday afternoon on Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears got on the board first off the stick of Jayla Thompson less than a minute in.
- The Roos responded with the next two goals as Nappi found Ava Bodnar for her 23rd goal of the season and Sydney Dunn caged her 20th of the season.
- Potsdam netted back-to-back goals before Dunn picked up her second goal and Nappi her second assist with 54 seconds left in the opening quarter.
- Canton doubled up Potsdam in shots on goal 6-3 in the opening quarter as the teams were tied at three after 15 minutes.
- The Roos controlled play in the second stanza with Sienna Hillicke scoring a pair of goals and Dunn adding her third of the game, while holding Potsdam to just one goal. The hosts led 6-4 at intermission.
- Bodnar scored once in the third quarter and Hailey LaShomb netted a pair as Canton outscored the Bears 3-2 in the quarter to lead 9-6 after 45 minutes.
- The Roos dominated putting the game away for good in the final frame outscoring their counterparts 5-1 as Bodnar and LaShomb scored two more goals each to finish off the 14-7 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bodnar led the offense with five goals and one assist, while Dunn scored four times. Nappi dished out a game-best four assists, while LaShomb scored three times and assisted another. Hillicke also scored a pair of goals.
- Kate Whitley was a force defensively recording game-highs of seven ground balls and six caused turnovers to go with five draw controls. Whitley's six caused turnovers are just one shy of tying the Roos single-game program record. Sara Aldous tied a game-high with six draw controls and also caused two turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls.
- Megan MacWilliams paced the Bears with six points on two goals and four assists, while Iohseriio Tabor scored three times.
- Laura Falandys earned the win stopping seven of the 13 shots she faced in 54 minutes of action, while Mikela Montes played the final six minutes in relief.
- Jane Olszewski made five saves on 11 shots in the first half, while Olivia Minarich made seven saves on 15 shots in the second half and was credited with the loss.
- The Roos held the upper hand in shots on goal (26-14), draw controls (13-11) and ground balls (20-18). Canton forced 20 Potsdam turnovers, while turning the ball over just 14 times themselves.
